Specialized Writing Services

In my career as a freelance writer, I have had terrific opportunities to work with clients from a wide array of backgrounds and disciplines. Over time, however, I realized that many of these clients required a specialized understanding to serve their interests best and that they could be categorized into three, broad, professional groups - legal. medical and education professionals.

Legal Writing

Writing clearly and effectively is a critical skill of any lawyer. Failure to account for even the smallest language usage detail has resulted in a decades long dispute over the intention of Second Amendment, heated judicial debate over the possessive s in Kansas, serial comma controversy in Alabama and perhaps most notably to business owners, The Million Dollar Comma case in Canada where a single misplaced comma cost Aliant, Inc. over 2 million dollars.

Understandably then, lawyers seek writers that share their legal concerns. Over the last decade, I have worked extensively in legal writing, from personal injury law to assisting in the development of several training courses for finance and insurance professionals. I'm familiar with legal terms and conventions, understand the importance and purpose of mitigating language, utilize legal resources and write critically, in clear and considered terms. Don't suffer time-consuming revisions needlessly, hire a writer with experience and expertise in legal writing, hire Heather.

Important Note – Legal professionals please be aware that as a writer, not a paralegal or lawyer, it is necessary for you to perform at least a final review on any writing that I submit to you for publication.

Medical Writing

Medical professionals share many of the same legal concerns as legal professionals do. Incorrectly worded medical descriptions, benefits and disclaimers can have devastating consequences, to your patients and to your business. Additionally, it is a massive industry filled with a bewildering array of products and services, many of which consumers find intimidating and even frightening.

For these reasons, medical writing can be extremely challenging. Medical professionals need a writer who can not only quickly communicate highly technical information to the average consumer, but do so convincingly. Which is why, perhaps, the medical field fuels so much of the advertising industry and is such a fundamental part of my client base.

Important Note – Medical professionals please be aware that as a writer, not a medical professional, it is necessary for you to perform at least a final review on any writing that I submit to you for publication.

Training Materials

Maybe more than any other discipline, writing education and training materials demands clarity and organization. Any required learning must have the goal to educate employees and students as fairly and efficiently as possible by removing any potential obstacles to the learning process. Training materials need to be refined so that there is a natural flow from topic to topic and reinforces key principles and concepts. The writing should be audited for misleading or confusing language and cultural and gender biases minimized.Test questions and answers must be formulated with care. There is much to consider when writing a training program.

If you are considering implementing a training program, contact HireHeather for a quote. I have years of experience managing several ongoing training programs and would love to assist you in any way that I can
